No matter what your reasons are for starting to read Turkish coffee grounds, you will need to have an understanding of the symbols that can show up in the grounds, follow your intuition, and of course, get lots of practice.

There are several affordable and durable coffee grinders on the market if you are looking for one. You need to make sure your coffee grinder produces fine enough coffee grounds for Turkish coffee.
The grounds should be extremely fine, almost powdery in texture.
Besides the grinder, you’ll need other stuff. You should the following things before trying to brew Turkish coffee: coffee, water, a coffee cup, a coffee pot, a stove, and a teaspoon.

- Turkish Coffee Pot (called a cezve) — If you don’t have one of these at your disposal, a saucepan works fine, too.
- Water

Grinder
Since Turkish coffee requires such a fine grind, you will need to use a grinder that is designed for coffee beans.
As was mentioned before, the grind size for Turkish coffee is very fine, like powder. Not all coffee grinders produce consistent results at the finer end of the spectrum.

Pots
If you don’t have a cezve, you can use a small pot or saucepan, but I recommend getting a Turkish coffee pot. Use a metal coffee pot to make authentic Turkish coffee.

Utensils
If you already have long-handled metal stirring spoons in your cupboard, you are in luck. If you want to throw a Turkish coffee party, these coffee stirring spoons will make it more fun.
It is always useful to have more than one spoon available, even though normally only one is required.
Automatic tools
This coffee takes some time to make, so you might not have enough time to spend the entire day making it. If you want to make Turkish coffee, you might want to get an automatic coffee maker.
The automatic coffee makers may not be as appealing as the traditional pots, but they are still effective!
There are two manufacturers, SAIK and BEKO, who are currently making waves in the world of Turkish coffee. I will discuss how to make Turkish coffee with their machines below.
Best beans for Turkish coffee
Despite needing a fine grind, Turkish coffee can be made with any coffee varietal or blend. There is no definitive answer, as different coffee beans will produce different results. You may have to experiment with different beans to find the taste that you prefer.
Most Turkish cafés, coffee houses, and restaurants use medium to dark roast Arabica coffee beans.
Although Robusta coffee beans have more caffeine than other beans, using them will not have catastrophic consequences.
Turkish coffee making process
After you have collected all the materials you need, you can start preparing your first cup of Turkish coffee.
Making Turkish coffee will not take much longer than making a regular cup of coffee, but it will provide a coffee experience that is authentic and traditional.
- Add the desired amount of water to your cezve.
- Heat the pot over medium heat until the water begins to warm up.
- Add a heaping teaspoon of coffee or two (or a tablespoon, if you want something a bit stronger) of your ground coffee for every three ounces of water. Your coffee should be very finely ground. Do not stir.
- Sweeten with sugar to taste, but do not stir, yet. Depending on your preferences and what you have on hand, you can use granulated sugar or a cube of sugar.
- Once the coffee begins to sink, and the sugar dissolves, turn the heat down to low and stir it until foam begins to form.
- When you see a ring begin to form, turn down the heat or remove it from the heat source temporarily.
- Never let your water boil but keep heating it while stirring as needed to create even more foam. The more coffee foam, the better your brew will taste.
- Keep the foaming stage going as long as you can. If you see it beginning to rise, remove it from the heat and then replace it. Repeat this one or two more times.
Use fresh and finely ground coffee, and manage your temperature. You should never let the coffee come to a boil because it will get overcooked.
To make the best foam, heat the liquid and stir it vigorously to create as much foam as possible. Leave a little foam on top when you pour it into your cup so you can enjoy it.
Variations

traditionally, Turkish coffee is served in special coffee cups which look like espresso cups, but with taller sides.
If you need to use espresso cups, you can, but I would still recommend using a Turkish coffee cup set. That is, if you’re serious about doing it right!
The minimum serving size for cups is 2 ounces (60 milliliters).
Turkish coffee pairings
Turkish coffee tastes great with a sweet snack like Turkish delight. A glass of cold water is a great way to remove the bittersweet flavor of Turkish coffee from your mouth.
